A Classic Matter

My Doctor Who life started about a year before the revived series broadcast. I used to watch classic series episodes on Sunday mornings on UKTV Gold. I only watched these because I had nothing else to watch, and I suppose, back then, they were a bit of fun! I had no real obsession at all at this stage. I barely knew the programme I was watching was called… Hang on, what is it? I think I got a little bored with it, as I didn’t watch it for a while before the new series.

A French First Series...

Back then, I didn't look at the internet much or anything, so I didn't know that it was coming back, and mainly, if was to be any good. I heard information, and the Radio Times gave a fantastic guide to the new series, and so, on 26th March 2005, I sat down on the sofa, and was transported through time and space... I was enjoying it quite a lot at this stage, but this was nothing compared to what I was to be like in a couple of years! I first bought a DVD of Series 1, from WHSmith, when I saw it by chance. At this stage I hadn't got a clue when the DVDs were coming out, or what the covers were going to be at all! And then, on Saturdays, my Dad and I usually went to Sainsbury's to do the weekly shopping, and every now and again I saw a volume of Series 1. Luckily my Dad was kind enough, and bought the DVDs when I asked, so I could watch them all over again, and relive the series! I haven't yet bought the Series 1 box-set, but have got all the vanilla discs and, strangely enough, the whole set in French!!! I thought it would make French revision a little bit less tense.

A New New Doctor

After the suprising finale of last series, I didn't know if the Christmas Special and the next series would live up to my expectations. I thought, in Series 1, Christopher Eccleston was MY Doctor, and it was so sad, as I wasn't expecting it! I think I found in The Christmas Invasion that David Tennant acted a bit silly, so I didn't throughly like him. But as the new series was drawing closer, I was getting more excited, and finally it was on, and David Tennant was much better than my first observations. By this time, I still didn't look on the internet for information and news, the Radio Times was my source! I was really excited that the Daleks were going to be battling the Cybermen at the end of the series, but also sad when Rose ended up in the parallel world, never going to see the Doctor again (well, wait to series 4!). I was very suprised when some random Bride ended up in the Tardis at the end of the episode. I didn't even realise that it was Catherine Tate! For the DVDs, I did, at this stage, look on the official BBC website for the covers, so I knew what they were going to be like. And, I also bought them on the day they came out. Later that year, I started to buy Doctor Who Magazine, which is a fantastic magazine! Plus, Doctor Who Adventures, all the way from issue one, not long before Series 2 started.

It's getting bigger!

By the time the third series hit our screens, forgetting the loud-mouthed Bride, my obsession was growing at a rapid pace. I was so excited by it! Much, much more than the previous two series! As most people at my school didn't like Doctor Who, I needed some people to talk to! I couldn't just live in my own world, so I searched the internet for something, so I could talk/chat to fellow Whovians. I found Doctor Who Online. I set up my account in the forums, as vassilator, and started to discuss various topics in and around the subject of Who. This was just what I needed! Flash Forward: In the next year, during the fourth series I talked a lot more, and even became a site patron! But sadly, now, I don't post or view the forums much anymore. Back to the start of 2007... At this stage, I had not found any blog sites or anything, but used Doctor Who Online and other sites to find out news. Is it me, or do they now not put news up much anymore? Anyway, so I always looked for most news, including the day the third series started, which was really exciting. So, the third series kicked off with Smith and Jones, which was one of the best episodes of all time, or so I thought at the time. I thought this series was amazing, and definitely much better than the previous two. I cried for the first time watching the show at the end of The Family of Blood. I know, but it was emotional!!! I'm really annoyed, as everyone really likes Blink, and they think it's their best episode, but, on the day it was first broadcast, I wasn't in the mood for Who (Ooo, that rhymes!). Do you ever get those times? I didn't enjoy it as much as I could have done, which is annoying, and it has stuck with me all this time. That's why I can't enjoy it as much, even now! I do still really like it though, but I think I could have liked it more. And, the series finale... One word... WOW! I bought all DVDs, on the day, even the box-set!

Speculation and Rumours

I was so annoyed with Voyage of the Damned. It could have been so much better. The Titanic in space. That's a great idea, but the story could have had a good twist around it. And as for Max Capricorn... You can read more about why I started atts in the section, 'why?', but here it is in brief. I was really, I mean REALLY into Doctor Who by this stage (and it's still growing!). I went on loads of sites, including Doctor Who Online again for news, and a few blog sites, including Tardis and Torchwood Treasures. I was 'mega-excited' about Series 4, and there was loads of speculation and rumours going around, including Davros appearing in the finale (Well, it's true now!). I was inspired by other blog sites, and I wondered how easy it is to make one. So I went ahead, and here we are now...

The Future...

Well, no one can determine the future, but I will keep updating the site for all the latest news and all the other pages until it is time to stop. Nothing has been thought of yet, to do with the site, but I think we're looking toward a bright future... for now!

I hope to do more on the site, but it's wide open for anything. If anyone thinks of anything we can do, then please contact us.

There will be information on this page for when we do have upcoming things, but for the moment, the layout will stay, I will, of course. The site is secure and in safe hands...

At first the site didn't have many visitors, mainly because nobody really knew about it. I was new to this stuff, so I didn't want to ask for a link on another site or anything. I didn't publicise at all! In the last couple of months, the number of visitors has soared tremendously! Now gaining an average of 130 unique visitors a day, rather than the like 2 when I started (my friend and I), and about 6 in May. It keeps going up as well! Thank you to everyone visiting!

The admin gets to talk to the other visitors quite often as there is a Cbox on the homepage. Everyone can leave a comment when they please, and I must say I am quite impressed with the number of times you catch the owner on there talking to other visitors.

Layout
The layout of this website is extremely neat and organised. When you look through this website you know straight away what's what.

Spelling and Grammar
Through all my time looking at ATTS, I have not found one single mistake! They get a 10 for spelling and grammar!

Bonus
As well a putting 100% effort into the site, they also find the time to review other sites and create DW, TW and SJA episode guides and lots more!

Information
There are always updates on there when they are needed/wanted. It is all very detailed and they are extremely good at wording it in a way both kids and adults will understand.

Overall
I think this is a brilliant site with lots of information and pictures, with a wide range of things to see and do!

Key Suggestions
Maybe you might consider putting a bit more on the sidebar so the end of the sidebar kind of ends in the same place as the posts?

The site owner is very kind and always welcomes people to the site in the C Box This is clear because he replies to every message left in a kind and encouraging way which makes the visitors want to return to talk. The owner's personality makes it addictive to talk on the site and the kindness shown is very clear.

The news posts and pages all include accurate spelling and use good English grammar. This makes the site easy to read and therefore attracts plenty of visitors! It is very hard to look through the site and find a mistake; so much time and effort is put into making everything accurate, which is definitely worthwhile and professional.

The pages of adventures through time and space is the real highlight the the site! Apart from the homepage, which has the latest news and other stuff, there is so much more on the site to look at. Even this page!

I decided to do pages, so the site became bigger. And it definitely has. I started the episode guides in the summer and now there are so many more things you can find links to under the banner, from character files and magazines to site looks, about, competitions, guestbook, a page devoted to links, loads of information and pages off other pages. So I hope you all get the chance to look at them! I think having the links under the banner looks really good, compared with them in the normal sidebar. It makes it easier to see.

The Second Design

The Start

At the start of July 2008, I had just come back from my holiday, and I just couldn't face surviving with what I had then. I thought, nah, it'll be ok, I'll just keep going. I tried to change the design to another basic template, but they all looked awful, so I searched for different templates on Google. And... I saw this one. It looked a bit different from what it looks like now, because I changed it slightly. I fell in love with the design when I saw it, and decided I must have it. So I thought over how I was going to do it. My computer was broken the day I changed it, so I used a Windows, which was rally great because I could download the template and then upload it to the site. Unfortunately when I did upload it, all my widgets were deleted. At least this gave me the chance of a fresh start! Since the new layout was put on, all titles in the sidebar have been in the lower case, including the title.

News Posts

When I first had the layout I still copied posts for 'reference', but I thought; this site is so much better now. I shouldn't just do that. Every other site does it, so I should write them all myself. So, I did, and it's working well!

Pages

At first, there were no pages, but then in August, I started on Doctor Who episode guides, then Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures. It just went from there. There are so many things you can find links to under the banner, from character files and magazines to site looks, about, competitions, guestbook, a page devoted to links, loads of information and pages off other pages. So I hope you all get the chance to look at them! I think having the links under the banner looks really good, compared with them in the normal sidebar. It makes it easier to see.

Banners

I've worked a lot harder on the banners for this layout, as the site deserves it. I still use Word funnily enough. Before the one uploaded on 28th September 2008, I had the Doctor Who logo black and white and transparent, which gave a brilliant feel, and I still love it!

Fonts and Colours

At the end of August I changed most of the fonts and colours. All the fonts are Arial, and the colour scheme in the sidebar is blue and orange, with the welcome in green.

Visitors

The First Design

The Start

I started off with this first design, which was all just mainly black, with not much colour, apart from the logo. I chose this design because I thought, at the time, that it was the best template of the ones avaliable. I didn't know then you were able to get different ones from around the internet. I still hate this layout, and I'm sure you'll agree with me saying that the new one is a LOT better!

News Posts

When I first started, and throughout the duration of this layout, I didn't write posts myself. That wasn't to say that I was lazy, I just wanted the site to be like that. Not written in all my own words, but just to give you as much information as I could. It was sort of a reference site if you like. Nothing too special I suppose.

Pages

This didn't have any pages until about June, where they were also reference stuff, which wasn't very interesting! All pages were just old posts, not other site addresses.

Banners

Most banners weren't that brilliant. It was just a normal promotional picture, with half the Doctor Who logo, sometimes a different colour, with the title over it. You can view all banners in the site looks link in the sidebar.

Fonts and Colours

I didn't change the font at all for all the time I had this layout, but I changed the colour of the post titles slightly nearer June to orange, from a horrible green.

The Making

In early April 2008, I had found other blog sites, and I wondered how easy it is to make one. I had a look around at Blogger, and I thought, why not! I didn't care if my new news site wasn't going to be great. This was a milestone in my life. I'd never had a website before this.

The Name

It took me through the first step. Username. Right, lets go original with my surname. vassilator. Ok, email address and stuff, next page. Ah. Blog Title. Oh. I thought for ages what to call it. I couldn't think of anything else, so I went for the very original, Adventures Through Time and Space. It was too long, and so common, but I still like it. It just seems to stand out well. I also had a little worry whether to make it in time and space, or through time and space. I worked it out in my head. If you're travelling in a Tardis, then you can't be in time, but you are going through it. So, there. Sorted. Choose layout. Ooo, let's have a boring black! This stayed for months!

The Banner

I can't use any fancy photo editing suite programmes, so I use Word to do all my banners. But not the first one! At the time of starting the site, I didn't know how to a screen capture, so I could take pictures of the Word document, so I just used a Doctor and Donna promotional picture, with a standard Blogger text logo. This was an awful banner, but oh well. Later on, I used screen capture, because I found out how to do it. You can view all the banners using the 'site looks' link in the sidebar.
